After the suspects fled the scene, officers chased them into Catawba County, where the crash occurred.
The person involved in the shooting drove off in a pick-up truck that led police on a chase through Charlotte, Lincoln County and ended in Catawba County.
Officials say police tried to stop robbery suspects in a stolen red truck when the truck crashed into a house and “burst into flames”.
A witness told reporter Tina Terry that he was shot in the hand while driving to work when people started shooting in the street.
CMPD said one of the suspects had a gun and “made movements with the weapon that threatened the safety of the officers”.
Officers shot the suspect several times.
Authorities say no officers were hurt. Officers fired at the suspect, who was taken to Catawba Regional Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Officer took a second suspect into custody.
