3 suspected of theft, looting during Blue Cut wildfire

But that encouraging news was tempered by more sobering figures released Friday: 96 homes and 213 other buildings were destroyed by the blaze, majority in its first ferocious days on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the San Bernardino Fire Department.

The Blue Cut Fire started near an exit off Interstate 15 in San Bernardino County, which is a major artery from Los Angeles to Las Vegas on Tuesday and exploded in size, swelling to 37,020 acres by Friday night, NBC News reported.

On August 18th, the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department released the names and photos of three looters caught in the act of stealing from a home within the evacuated area.

Some of the evacuations were lifted Friday, allowing some of the 82,000 people under mandatory orders to return to their homes – if there was a home to return to.
