3 teenage boys arrested in attacks against Trump supporters

The arrests come after mounting criticism of the San Jose Police Department for what some say was a tepid and tardy response to attacks on Trump supporters after a political rally on June 2.

The teens were not identified due to their ages, said Officer Albert Morales, a San Jose police spokesman. “I stood up for myself like any other American would”. Mayor Sam Liccardo says there’s no room for violence in this city. The mayor issued a statement shortly after scolding Trump for “stirring antagonism” and soon after a statement denouncing the violence, after the first missive was met with a huge backlash.

It is unclear whether the seven charged were Trump supporters or among the hundreds of protesters who were seen on news clips waving Mexican flags, chanting anti-Trump slogans, and burning Trump hats and at least one USA flag.

Detectives assigned to the task force on post-rally violence released Wednesday images of another assault suspect they’re seeking, of a man who at one point was wearing a backward black baseball cap.

The three new suspects are all juveniles, two of which were arrested for felony assault with a deadly weapon and the third was arrested for misdemeanor battery.

The department said it expects to make more arrests and released two photos of a man they say is responsible for a further assault. Three of four are facing felony charges. Three face a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon, and the fourth a misdemeanor charge of failing to disperse when ordered.
