325000 pre-orders tallied within first week
The flood of pre-orders also led Musk to tweet that Tesla would need to “rethink production planning”.

Tesla Model 3 pre-orders have gone through the roof, and now stands at more than 325,000 reservations in a week, which is great news for the company. Tesla has viewed the Model 3, which starts at a base price of $35,000 (roughly Rs. 23 lakhs), as key means to transitioning the auto market to zero-emissions. Per Tesla, this is the “single biggest one-week launch of any product”. Unlike other major product launches, we haven’t advertised or paid for any endorsements.
The saga of the Tesla Model 3 and its positive reception from consumers continues.
By the time Musk had finished his presentation, preorders for the Model 3 had already far surpassed 100,000 units. “Most importantly, we are taking a huge step towards a better future by accelerating the transition to sustainable transportation”, the company said on its website. The prototype of the much awaited electric sedan, which broke cover on March 31, has been caught driving on the road for the first time and mind you it looks as spectacular as it did during the unveil.
“This has to be a first for the automotive industry: lines of people waiting to place an order for a vehicle that won’t be available for over a year”, said Jessica Caldwell, Edmunds.com director of industry analysis.
Tesla declined to comment on the rumors but released a statement saying the company is “constantly innovating and adding new features to our vehicles”.
Within just the 24 hours Tesla’s launch of its Model 3, the company received 180,000 pre-orders orders, and up to 276,000 within 72 hours.

The first deliveries aren’t due until the end of 2017, and Tesla’s history suggests that production could ramp up slowly. According to Kelly Blue Book, the average price of a vehicle in the country is about $33,543, which signifies that that the Model 3 is competitive.
