Dozens of people with life jackets were found floating in Indonesia’s Gulf of Bone on Sunday, some clinging to a fish trap, after abandoning their ferry in rough seas off Sulawesi Island, said officials, adding that two passengers had died.

A single-engine Piper PA32 that took off from the Reid-Hillview Airport disappeared from radar near Bakersfield around 4 p.m. Saturday, according to Ian Gregor from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Roki Asikin, head of the local Search and Rescue Agency, said his team of rescuers could not reach the vessel because of the bad weather but at daybreak on Sunday larger ships and air force helicopters and aircraft would join the search.

Rough waters are complicating rescue efforts after the weekend capsize of a ship off the central Indonesian coast, with workers saying they have found 37 survivors and three bodies, but that 78 people are still missing.

The plan is for a new trilogy, but Daniels wouldn’t say if he’ll be in the next two instalments. Security will be tight, with several streets blocked to traffic and extra police on patrol.

When asked whether the boat had sunk, police spokesman Frans Barung said: “Maybe yes, maybe no”.

All four survivors of the ship, which was sailing from Kolaka in Southeast Sulawesi to Siwa in South Sulawesi, have been sent to Siwa Hospital.

The whereabouts of the remaining 76 people were unclear, with search and rescue teams hampered by rough conditions and waves up to five meters high.

Asikin said the boat was hit by waves more than three metres high amid stormy weather about 21 kilometres southeast of Wajo island, causing it to spring a leak. “So when the boat started to tilt sideway, all the passengers jumped into the water”, said Mussakar.

Officials dismissed initial reports that the boat had sunk, instead claiming it was adrift, having lost engine power.
