Four people are dead after a fire broke out in a multi-family home in Lynn, Massachusetts early Friday, fire officials said.
The fire in a multifamily home in Lynn was reported just before 1 a.m., Fire Chief James McDonald said.
No names have been made public, but officials say the victims do not appear to be children.
The fire was first spotted by a police officer, when the building was already fully engulfed.
Fire crews said the fire is out, but was hard to extinguish.
‘We’re also dealing with a very, very narrow street, a tight, congested area, so it’s a really, really hard fire to fight and a hard one to try and get to the victims.
‘There’s cars parked on the street that are damaged primarily from the heat.
Alerted by residents who managed to escape that more people were inside, Lynn firefighters forced their way into the burning building and onto the second floor where they rescued one woman, then rescued another before they were driven out of the building by the fire.
Two women were pulled out of the building unconscious, but firefighters couldn’t go back inside because the conditions became too unsafe.
Crews are on the scene at 24 Bruce Place and said 18 or 19 people lived in the home.
