Four teenagers were injured, one critically, in a shooting at the downtown Nashville MTA bus station Monday afternoon. An 18-year-old is reportedly in critical condition. All of the victims were taken to a local hospital.

The bus station is located at 400 Charlotte Avenue near the Tennessee Performing Arts Center, and because of its proximity to downtown a crowd has formed at the scene.

According to Nashville Police, a suspect dropped a gun, which they recovered. “I’m telling you. It could not have been even a minute elapsed between when we heard the shots and when I walked upon the scene, and those police officers had already gotten the area cleared and taken care of the injured people”.

It was unclear what led up to the incident.

Nashville mayor Megan Barry responded to the shooting by saying she would continue to implement recommendations from the Youth Violence Summit Report to create a safer city. At this time of day, teenagers frequently use this bus station as they head home from school, said the report.
