40 missing in China after a landslide

Dozens of people are missing after a landslide came crashing down on the living quarters of mining workers in northwest China early Wednesday, state media reported.

It says 14 people have been rescued, and that further efforts are continuing.

The landslide appears to have been caused by the after effect of Typhoon Soudelor, which hit southern China over the weekend.

Shanyang officers said the police were usually aware the avalanche at 01:47 neighborhood moment in time (17:47 GMT on Tuesday).

Neighboring residents have been moved out of the area, it said.

The official Xinhua News Agency said four people were pulled from the debris and rushed to local hospitals, where they remained in stable conditions.

Separately, a coal and gas burst on Tuesday night in a mine in the southwestern province of Guizhou killed 10 people and left one more missing, provincial work safety authorities said in a statement.

Rescue makes have already been substantially little by large torrent, said form broadcaster Closed-circuit television.
