400 Million Users, Added 100 Million In Past 9 Months Alone — Instagram

As reported in Forbes, more than 75 percent of Instagram million users live outside the US.

The company announced Tuesday that it now has 400 million monthly active users, up from the 300 million in December of 2014.

Instagram’s rapid growth has continued and the photo-sharing site now has 400 MILLION users – meaning it has overtaken Twitter.

Facebook’s chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said during the company’s second-quarter earnings call that the company is not yet ready to turn on the moneymaking spigot with Messenger or WhatsApp.

No Facebook branding appears on Instagram, which has a degree of independence from the world’s biggest social network.

Of recent, a number of well-known names have joined the site including David Beckham, Caitlyn Jenner, and Toni Kroos.

More than three-quarters of Instagram users live outside of the United States, and Instagram looks to expand that reach with the launch of 30 new countries in the month of September alone. The application controversially ramped up its advertising platform recently, in order to allow marketers greater access to users.

The San Francisco-based firm, bought by Facebook in 2012 for one billion dollars (£669m), said in a blog post it was “thrilled” by the milestone.

“Instagram reaches a different audience so that has an appeal to advertisers and they are selling it as a separate product as a branding tool”, Ian Maude, head of digital media at Enders Analysis, told CNBC.

According to a Pew Research report Instagram and Pinterest continue to attract many new users while services such as Twitter and Facebook start to plateau. This includes the first surface image of the planet Pluto and support for photo formats like landscape, portrait, etc. Another great feature offered by Instagram is the newly introduced search and explore function.

Instagram now has 400 million active users last 100M star-studded
