42 hurt when railing collapses at Snoop Dogg concert

The company that operates a New Jersey amphitheater where 42 people were hurt when a railing collapsed during a Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa concert says it has “secured” the broken section and that upcoming concerts will go on.

The railing separated fans from a sloping lawn near the concert area.

The collapse occurred as the performers were gesturing to fans to come toward the stage, officials said.

“There will be a permanent railing installed later, but for the sake of public safety and security the temporary railing has to go up”.

Live Nation released the following statement regarding the incident: ‘We were saddened that several dozen people, including Live Nation employees, sustained injuries resulting from a railing section collapse during the Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa concert at Camden’s BB&T Pavilion on Friday night. The lawn is several feet above a concrete walkway. The person was hospitalized overnight and released on Saturday morning.

The two rappers were on the stage performing while the rail gave way.

A Camden County Metro Police spokesman said 10 to 15 people here hurt, but that the number could rise. Their conditions weren’t known and the number of injured could increase. Most of the injuries were minor.

The indoor-outdoor venue, across the Delaware River from Philadelphia’s Center City, has a capacity of 25,000, including indoors seating for 7,000.

At least five people were taken to hospital after more than a dozen tumbled on to concrete as the Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa concert
