49ers Hire Chip Kelly as New Head Coach
The 49ers hired the Philadelphia Eagles’ former coach on Thursday, finding the man CEO Jed York is counting on to turn things around for his once-proud franchise.

Kelly’s introductory press conference with the 49ers is likely to be held Wednesday or Thursday due to travel conflicts with general manager Trent Baalke.
Kelly, 52, will be coming from the opposite coast, where he’s been the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles for the last three season.
Guss Armstead didn’t want to speculate on how Kelly’s sales pitch might be in the National Football League, but he endorsed the 49ers’ move to hire the former OR and Eagles coach. Sounds a lot like Jim Harbaugh, who is the most successful 49ers coach since the mid 1990’s, but also someone who clashed too often with York and especially Baalke, which is why he got fired, making a return to college football and doing quite well on his first season with MI, his alma mater.
The San Francisco 49ers have hired Chip Kelly as their new head coach. Coughlin’s former offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo, who the Eagles interviewed last week, was named the New York Giants’ 17th head coach. Kelly had a winning record with the Eagles, which says that he’s at worst a competent head coach.
So, again, Kelly as GM was not as good as Kelly as coach.
The question remains on whether those reps could come under Kelly in his new post in San Francisco. A second-round pick in 2012, James was released in September 2014 after the 49ers began that season by beating Dallas. “You can trust me that we are going to do everything that we can to get this team back where it belongs”. Kelly as Niners coach is a high-risk, high-reward proposition, given his proclivity for a quick-strike offense that inevitably leads to a worn-out defense.
Mariota knows Kelly’s terminology, Kelly’s reads, Kelly’s preferred footwork – everything Kelly demands from his quarterbacks.
The 49ers head into the offseason with a dramatic change in coaches, which will make for interesting considerations for the offense. Over the course of the year, injuries ravaged the unit, with Hyde and Bush both ending up on season-ending IR before it was all said and done. “I would hope that he’s learned that he’s gotta get along better with his employees; that this is a different situation and he’s gotta have everyone onboard with his style and philosophy”, he said.

Regardless, Kelly surely isn’t getting minimum wage for the next two years – which means that his ability to get another job right away will result in significant cash savings for the guy who fired him only 17 days ago. He joins a team beleaguered by personnel issues, particularly those surrounding quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
