49ers Hire Former Eagles Coach Chip Kelly

Could Chip Kelly’s hiring give a new hope to Colin Kaepernick in San Francisco? It’s clear that Kelly has always been a fan of Kaepernick and Kaepernick had long been a rumored target for the Eagles in Philadelphia when Kelly was the coach there. 49ers CEO Jed York announced the move on Twitter Thursday afternoon and so did the team.

Kelly faces the daunting challenge of transforming the Niners into an immediate contender again.

Chip Kelly has made a quick return to National Football League as the new head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. But we’ll see how quickly Kelly can get that team changed up after a very rough 2015. “I look forward to watching Trent (Baalke, the GM) and Chip work closely to build a team that will make us all proud”.

Kelly was at the 49ers facility on Thursday but his introductory press conference won’t be held until next week, the team citing scheduling conflicts and Kelly’s quest to hire assistants.

The 49ers are coming off a 5-11 2015 season under first-year coach Jim Tomsula.

The NFL head coaching search continues for some teams, as the Philadelphia Eagles, Tennessee Titans, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are still looking for their next head coach.

Before he left the Eagles, Kelly was reportedly trying to engineer a trade with the 49ers for the mobile Kaepernick, who is recovering from surgeries from his left shoulder, right thumb and left knee, thrived under former head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Prior to becoming a head coach in the NFL, Kelly had a highly successful career at the college level starting at the University of New Hampshire and then moving over to the University of Oregon. That will not be the case in San Francisco, where general manager Trent Baalke maintains considerable power.

Kelly was sacked by the Philadelphia Eagles Dec. 29 after going 6-9 in his third season with a week remaining. His defenses, however, were 29th, 28th and 30th, and some defensive players complained that the frantic pace of Kelly’s offense meant they were on the field too much.

“Guess I might have to start running right now to get in shape”. If healthy and if the 49ers decide to keep him, Kaepernick is one of the NFL’s most risky dual-threat quarterbacks. But that day won’t come next season. And why not? No one would have been surprised at that point if Kaepernick had played his last game for the 49ers. I’m not saying you gotta hire him, but we are insane if we don’t bring this guy in here and at least listen to what he has to say, let him speak his mind about what happened in Philly, let him explain why he thinks he failed’.

Even more so if Kelly was infatuated with a quarterback on the roster.
