49ers linebacker Aldon Smith arrested in California

Find it. It’s there… He will not be alone. “I was working with him, trying to help him, and I’m not done yet”. “Everybody has struggles, they re just in different ways”. And although Aldon will not be playing football here, we will be supporting him.

Tomsula said he hoped Smith’s case would serve as a cautionary tale for others battling similar personal problems.

Smith was booked and later released on $26,000 bond Friday night for suspicion of drunken driving, and charges of hit and run and vandalism. Officers found evidence of a collision involving a small passenger auto parked next to Smith’s SUV. The owner of that struck vehicle confronted Smith about the damage, they talked, and then, the NFL player walked away. They believed that he “displayed objective symptoms of being under the influence of an alcoholic beverage”, and administered a field sobriety test. He also provided a preliminary alcohol screening sample, but the SCPD has not disclosed the results of that test at this time. “Theres no DUI. Im sorry for the way this whole thing — I want everybody to understand the situation that happened could have been handled differently.”. “As far as everything is concerned, it’ll work out how it’s supposed to work out”. “That’s all”. Police say Smith appeared to be intoxicated.

Smith, who is in training camp preparing for the 49ers’ upcoming season, was suspended for nine games last year because of another driving-under-the-influence case.

After his latest arrest, the now ex-49er was treated like anyone else arrested for a DUI, and didn’t receive any special treatment. That November, he pleaded not guilty to three felony counts of illegal possession of an assault weapon, stemming from a June 2012 party at his home. January 28, 2012, Smith was arrested for DUI in Miami Beach, Florida.

Smith, the No 7 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, has registered 44 quarterback sacks in 50 games since he joined the 49ers, although his sack rate has tailed off dramatically in recent seasons. He finished the season with 37 tackles, four pass deflections, two forced fumbles and 14 sacks.

Smith’s exit is the biggest emotional blow the 49ers have endured during an offseason of myriad turnover, including Tomsula replacing Jim Harbaugh and the ensuing retirements of Patrick Willis, Justin Smith, Anthony Davis and Chris Borland. This fraternity needs to be turned from the inside to the outside, because (young players) have no clue.
