49ers, Rams to play 2018 game in China

Already planning on ceding one of their home games in 2018 to be the de facto host for a contest in China, the Rams now appear to have an opponent for that showcase.

Stan Kroenke’s much-hyped stadium isn’t scheduled to be ready for play until the 2019 season.

Annual games in London are a massive hit with fans from the United States and England alike, and its rights deal with Sky Sports and now the BBC have seen a massive increase in revenue from the global market.

The 49ers and Rams may play a regular season game in China in two years.

The NFL, however, denied this latest report. “We have said we are exploring playing a game there but nothing is definitive”.

“We have not announced the Rams’ opponent in the event we play a game there”, McCarthy wrote in an email to the Southern California News Group.

If the National Football League does play a game in China, it makes sense the Rams and 49ers would be under consideration considering their west coast bases.

NFL Films cameras have been embedded with the Los Angeles Rams since the team moved from its former home of St. Louis (yes, we know they were first the L.A. Rams, but work with us here).

The San Francisco 49ers will apparently be a big part of the NFL’s plans to expand the game into China.

There are three other global games on the 2016 schedule, including a Week 4 meeting between the Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars and a Week 8 battle between the Washington Redskins and Cincinnati Bengals at Wembley Stadium.
