49ers sign former CFL receiver Eric Rogers

Last season while playing for the Calgary Stampeders, Rogers had 87 catches for 1,448 yards and 10 touchdowns. “The 6’3”, 210 lbs wideout will certainly have a shot to play a role in the offense.

The 49ers are trying to create a new look with head coach Chip Kelly now at the helm.

Rogers auditioned for several National Football League teams, including the New England Patriots, New York Jets, New York Giants and San Diego Chargers, Eagles and 49ers. He contributed 149 yards and two touchdowns in just two regular season games that year, while his playoff performance helped lead Calgary to a Grey Cup victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 102nd Grey Cup Championship. He set the school record as a senior with 91 receptions for 1,298 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Rogers was also named a CFL All-Star in 2015.

Michael David Smith of NBC’s Pro Football Talk reports 16 NFL teams brought Rogers, 24, in for a visit in recent months, with the 49ers signing him for a $125,000 signing bonus and $100,000 in guaranteed salary.

Rogers was a Division III standout at California Lutheran, but failed to catch on as an undrafted free agent in Dallas in 2013.
