49ers TE Vernon Davis denies locker room friction

Our 49ers sources tell us… there definitely was a heated exchange between Vernon Davis and Joe Staley at a team meeting – where they verbally clashed over Kaepernick.

Published reports suggested the altercation escalated into a physical confrontation.

“I don’t know where that’s coming from”, Davis said. “I’m not saying bench him for the season, but sometimes you gotta shake things up”. I didn t call Kap out at all. It’s not my job or my role to call Kap out.

“I think I’m a guy that’s in the locker room more than most coaches…. Then seconds later, we were laughing and hanging out and drinking sodas together”. “We’ve constantly had talks since I started playing. I give everything I can to my teammates to try to help us win and to try to help us be better moving forward”. We’re captains. We’re leaders of the team. Staley was unavailable to comment during the team’s open locker room period on Thursday.

“Me and Joe, we’ve been here together”, Davis said.

“And when it’s all said and done, there’s hugging and kissing and we’re eating good food again, OK?” He s a great teammate. I love him. I think he’s awesome.

Over the weekend, Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reported that Kaepernick’s confidence is completely shot and he is not receiving any support from teammates.

Other than that, I ve had a great relationship with him.

Davis’ words seem rather particular, especially when you consider multiple sources confirmed the heated battles between the two, and the calling out of Kaepernick.

“We met as a unit”, Davis said.

“I don’t think this team ever had issues”. It’s something we both want to do. But unlike the recent teams under Harbaugh, this group may not have the players to pull it off.

San Francisco managed just 55 yards in the first half and finished with 142, fewer than the 164 the Niners managed in last year’s Thanksgiving night loss to Seattle and their worst total since 133 yards against the Vikings on November 5, 2006.
