49ers Trade TE Derek Carrier to Washington
He has been a regular contributor to the special teams unit during his tenure in San Francisco, though a slew of 49ers tight ends led by Vernon Davis have kept Carrier on the sidelines for the vast majority of offensive snaps.

The Redskins have traded an undisclosed draft pick to the San Francisco 49ers for tight end Derek Carrier.
Now Carrier heads to a Washington tight-end unit recently hit hard by injuries. Carrier was a basketball player in college who has made the transition to football over the past two seasons with the 49ers.
And the tight end trades are apparently really rolling.
Washington is desperate for tight end depth after season-ending injuries to Niles Paul (fractures and dislocated left ankle) and Logan Paulsen (torn ligaments, right big toe). He then went to the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad after being released was added to the 49ers practice squad. Reed would be the starter, but he has missed the past two weeks with a strained hamstring.
Carrier, 25, is a third-year pro who appeared in 11 games last season.
Washington has Jordan Reed, Je’Ron Hamm, Chase Dixon, Devin Mehini, D.J. Williams and Earnst Brun Jr. on the roster. In 2014, he appeared in 11 games (one start) and registered nine receptions for 105 yards.

Carrier started his NFL career as an undrafted free agent with the Oakland Raiders. The pick is conditional and based on Carrier’s playing time and productivity this season. Davis is the only tight end on the roster with more than 10 career catches.
