– A 67-year-old woman from the Port Richmond neighborhood who had diabetes and congestive heart failure died between Thursday and Saturday.
All three deaths were the cause of heat complications in addition to pre-existing health issues. Both women also had preexisting medical conditions.
Philadelphia’s fifth excessive heat wave of the summer claimed three lives this past weekend.
An excessive heat advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. tonight.
The high temperatures last Thursday through Sunday were all 95 degrees and above. Saturday saw a high of 97 degrees, just short of the 99 degrees record in 2002.
Weather Underground forecasts the hot weather will continue into Monday from parts of southern New England southward into the mid-Atlantic. By Tuesday, the worst should have passed due to the arrival of a frontal boundary that will lower evening temperatures and cut down on humidity, says Philly Voice.

Hitting record highs and triple-digit heat indexes, the heat wave will push on for at least one more day with heat index values expected to be 103 to 108 on Tuesday afternoon, the city said. Boston reached 93 degrees and a maximum heat index of 100.
