Pakistan will thus become the new no.1 Test ranked side, courtesy their 2-2 draw in England.

The Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board has launched an investigation as to why the 4th Test match of the series between West Indies and India was abandoned, despite long periods of sunshine.
After Australia’s 3-0 defeat in Sri Lanka, India once again reclaimed the number one rank only to concede it to Pakistan having failed to win the fourth Test against West Indies.
No play was possible at Queen’s Park Oval on Monday’s (August 22) scheduled last day of the match, the fourth consecutive day on which not a ball was bowled because of poor underfoot conditions around the playing square.
The result means that India, led by Virat Kohli, end the series as 2-0 winners but drop below Pakistan in the Test rankings. To top the Test table, which boasts some of the best sides and players, is something to be very proud of.
“We can not bring worldwide cricket (to the country) but we have brought the number one rankings”, said Abdul Qayyum. Apart from the successes against England, they had also beaten Sri Lanka 2-1 in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh 1-0 in Bangladesh, and whitewashed Australia 2-0 in the UAE. I’m pretty happy. I hope we can keep on making that aspect of our team stronger because when you are in a tough situation in Test matches those are the positions that matter a lot.
“Once this has been done it will be presented to the WICB (West Indies Cricket Board)”.
Pakistan have had a brilliant run in the Test format over the past couple of years, with their No 1 ranking being built on a run of unbeaten Test series. So we wanted to try this combination out, though the game didn’t happen here.
Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland has congratulated Pakistan on their rise to the top of world cricket, which has come despite them being unable to play matches on home soil for more than six years.
Since being established as one of the principal venues for worldwide cricket in the Caribbean in 1930, no Test match or other senior global fixture had ever been scheduled at the ground after the month of June until this series. We also have a one-day squad and T20 squad for the first part of the Pakistan series.
“The number-one ranking is well deserved and a testament to the quality of cricket the team has consistently played over the past few years”.
