5 fights to make after UFC 202: Diaz vs. McGregor 2

As the second round of Conor McGregor’s UFC 202 do-over with Nate Diaz neared its conclusion, there was only one man making things happen. No, highly unlikely. The most likely options would be for McGregor to be looking at some film roles which would no doubt be easier for him to land given the UFC’s new WME-IMG talent agency owners.

Judges Derek Cleary and Jeff Mullen scored the rematch 48-47 for McGregor, and judge Glenn Trowbridge had it a draw, 47-47.

Diaz also told the assembled media that he was injured before the fight and that, given he wasn’t at 100%, McGregor should have had a much clearer victory. Page2sports.com had it a 48-47 in favor for McGregor. “Then we rescheduled, two-year round-the-world deal with that boy and then he stepped in and I beat him in 13 seconds”, McGregor said following the close of UFC 202.

“Surprise, surprise, motherf***ers. The king is back”.

The “Notorious One” came blazing out the gates using good leg kicks and crisp combinations at a measured pace to control the fight in the opening rounds.

McGregor wants a third fight against Diaz to be at 155 pounds – that’s the lightweight limit, where the fighters would essentially be meeting halfway between featherweight and welterweight. Diaz got dropped a couple of times, it looked like he was done, and he came back. The California native expressed his disbelief about the scorecards after the fight and immediately demanded a trilogy.

“I’ve been a lightweight the whole time”. “I’m ready for [No. 3]”.

Yea, I said it – former champion and No. 1-ranked welterweight Robbie Lawler. McGregor said. “If you want this trilogy, it’s on my terms”.

When asked if a third bout with Diaz would be next on his schedule, McGregor said: “Probably not”. I won that fight and I’m happy with it. Come back to 155 [pounds].

“It’s hard for me to get excited about that, especially after his last performance”. But instead, Johnson will go about it the legit way, and he’ll fight current champion Daniel Cormier for the light heavyweight title, as agreed upon by both fighters tonight.

In a fight that saw both tested extensively, McGregor took a lead in the early rounds.
