5 firefighters injured after tractor-trailer hits fire truck

The trouble started at about 3am with an accident involving a fire truck and a tractor trailer underneath the Chestnut Street overpass, which closed the major expressway.

The crash forced I-75 to be shut down for several hours, impacting morning commuters.

According to Georgia State Patrol, the crash occurred just after 6 p.m. on I-20 eastbound at Georgia Highway 113 in Carroll County. Five firefighters were taken to a hospital to be checked out by doctors. Doctors at Hahnemann Hospital treated the firefighters while the truck driver went to Jefferson Hospital – all in stable condition.

#Developing: One southbound lane now open on 95 south. Their injuries were not believed to be serious.

I-75 northbound was congested due to a previous tractor-trailer accident, according to Henry County Police Department spokesman Capt. Joey Smith.

Firefighters’ union president Andrew Thomas told FOX 29 news the big hero is the driver of the fire truck, Joseph Raday.

Traffic backed up way before Ben Franklin Bridge already.

Meantime, around five Tuesday morning, a stolen vehicle was set ablaze in a wooded area near Nantyr Shores Secondary School in Alcona.
