“We captured it with no incidents”, said Officer Stuart Spoede, of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The News-Press () reports charges are pending.

“Anything can happen, I have a 5 year old that’s not terrified of anything and if he was to see it he would probably walk up to it and try to grab it”.

A 5-foot cobra has been captured after escaping from its home in southwest Florida.

FWC said the owner does have a valid permit to keep the snake – and 16 others he has inside his home.

FWC officers credit neighbors for calling in potential sightings.

The snake’s owner, Lewis Pellicer, lives a few blocks from where the snake was found. Pellicer has a Venomous Reptile Permit, but will be facing charges stemming from the snake’s disappearance.

The monocled cobra is venomous with varying levels of potency depending on the origin of the snake.

This isn’t the first time a missing snake in Florida has captured attention.

Reptile expert Greg Graziani says he never expected to find and trap the snake so soon.

“After we actually caught it is when the reality set that we just snagged this cobra, a possibly deadly snake”, said FWC Lt. David Barrett. They said the snake will be held at a licensed facility until the case is resolved.
