The ongoing peaceful protest for Jamar Clark, a black man who was fatally shot by police, and the Black Lives Matter movement in Minneapolis suddenly turned violent Monday night when shots were fired into the crowd. Those who were shot received non-life threatening injuries.

Minneapolis police said officers were searching for three white male suspects in the shooting.

Black Lives Matter has said it was set to announce the “next steps” of the protest on Tuesday following a meeting with community members.

Black Lives Matter says white supremacists shot into a crowd of unarmed, mostly Black protesters demonstrating against police brutality.

Police at the scene of the shooting. But on Monday night, five people were injured in a shooting about a block from the precinct.

The Police Department said it is working to identify suspects, and asking anyone with information to come forward.

“This is what this is all about you know standing for what you believe in”, said Clark’s brother, Eddie Sutton.

The fatal shooting of a black man by a Minneapolis police officer has prompted more than a week of protests and led to calls for answers as state and federal investigators continue to piece together what happened.

Witnesses also claim the gunshot victims waited 15 minutes before emergency crews arrived to treat their injuries. Their wounds were classified as non-life-threatening, according to the Minneapolis Police Department. The statement says the department has additional uniformed officers in the area for extra security.

At least five people were wounded when the gunmen opened fire about 10:45 p.m. Monday at the city’s Fourth Precinct, reported the Star Tribune.

According to the Associated Press, “two victims were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center by ambulance and three others were driven by private vehicles to the North Memorial Medical Center”, police said.

Protesters have been camping outside a police precinct for nine days since a 24-year-old man was shot by police.
