5-story building collapses in Istanbul

In a shocking incident, a five-storeyed building was collapsed in the Turkish city of Istanbul and fortunately, no one got hurt on Friday.

“According to preliminary data, there were no victims of the building’s collapse, however, we are still carrying out a search and rescue operation to make certain”.

Officials said the structures were reportedly empty, but there were operational shops and a cafeteria on the ground floor, prompting fears that people could be trapped inside.

Istanbul Governor Vasip Sahin told local reporters that people near the building realised that it was about to collapse when they heard a deafening noise.

One building which was used as a guest house totally collapsed, while another one next to it partially toppled.

The collapsed buildings were located in Istiklal avenue, a main touristic neighborhood in Istanbul.

The cause of the catastrophe was not immediately clear.
