5-year-old recovering after being hit by auto in Worcester

A Worcester, Massachusetts, boy who was struck by a auto after being left alone at a bus stop after school is recovering at home. Police say the driver of a 2014 Chevrolet Impala said the boy ran into the street from between two parked vehicles.

The boy was taken to the hospital with a broken leg and minor head trauma.

Ernenwein said AA Transportation bus drivers must undergo extensive training and background checks.

Police say the little boy was hit on Hamilton Street at about 3:40 p.m. Monday.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that the boy was dropped off by a school bus”.

When police spoke with the child’s mother, she said there was confusion today and that usually the boy is accompanied by his older sister. A school official said there is a strict policy requiring that any child not met by a parent or designated adult at a bus stop be returned to school.

Police told the Worcester Telegram that no citation has been issued and the investigation is continuing.

A spokesperson for the charter school was not immediately available this morning to comment on the status of the bus driver.
