The victims of Friday’s light plane crash near Shannon Airport in Fredericksburg have been identified, and investigators now say the airplane was attempting a “go-around” when the crash occurred.
Pilot: William C. Hamerstadt, 64, of Carmel, Ind.
Emma’s twin brother stayed at home in Shelbyville, Indiana, because he had football and basketball practice, he said.
Lisa K. Borenstein, 52, of Shelbyville, Ind.
State Police say the plane took off from Louisville on Friday morning and stopped in Shelbyville.
The bodies were recovered from the burnt wreckage and sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond for positive identification, examination and autopsy, according to Virginia State Police. When the plane crashed into the trees, it immediately caught fire, officials said.
Authorities are yet to disclose the identities of the victims, but have revealed that they are not from Virginia. Anchorage Police said witnesses reported seeing the plane taking off just before the crash. “Plane looks small but the fire is still going”.
The Virginia State Police, Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash.
She said her train was delayed about 30 minutes because of the crash. Ninety-one aircraft are based there, a lot of them are single-engine.
