The condition of the people taken to the hospital is unknown. Shortly after takeoff, there was a report of smoke in a cabin.

A Spirit Airlines flight landed safely after it was reported that there was smoke in the cockpit.

The official said the crash caused some traffic delays in the drop-off lines. Sometimes a pack is filled with bad Freon, and when the air conditioning in the airplane is turned on, “a really bad smell occurs”, he said.

The flight was headed to Pennsylvania before returning to OIA. It’s not known if the patients were crew, passengers or a combination. A Spirit spokesperson said the crew members went to the hospital because protocol requires that they’re given that option.
