The crash happened at Shannon Airport in Fredericksburg, Virginia on Friday, CNN reports. Authorities said they will not identify the victims until all next of kin are notified. WHAS11 News sources are also hearing the same number.
State police are on scene.
The plane crashed into trees on Friday in Fredericksburg near the end of the airport’s runway when it was attempting to land before pulling back up again, NBC Washington reported. State Police say the pilot of the plane was 64-year-old William C. Hamerstadt of Carmel, Indiana.
Police say at least two people died. State police is working with the Office of the Medical Examiner to account for those on board and then with positive identification.
Investigators were still trying to determine how many people were on board and their identities, Geller said, though two were confirmed dead.
The cause of the crash is now being investigated.
‘The plane was completely decimated and there was still some flame coming from it, ‘ Acree said in an email.
Those train tracks near the airport carried an Amtrak train, with passengers witnessing the moments right after the plane went down.
Speaking to NBC News, Shari Acree, was on a train when she saw the crash.

The train rode past the crash site and Aquino said she saw flames, smoke, several rescue vehicles and the remains of the plane just beyond the tree line.
