Officials from the Syracuse Fire Department, which confirmed the deaths on Twitter, were not immediately available to provide additional details.
“So they had to back out and find another way into the house”, Linnertz said.
William Yager, 33, was Lawrence Anderton’s nephew and the final victim, Lawrence Anderton said. A 33-year-old man and a 34-year-old man also died in the fire.
Investigators believe they are all from the same family.
Eight people lived in the home, Galloway said.
Michael Henesey, spokesman for the Syracuse City School District, said the victims include “four of our students”.
The fire on Martin Street took place around 4 a.m. Two others were found downstairs.
A woman says she heard what sounded like an explosion before a home in her Syracuse neighborhood went up in flames, killing six members of the same family. She looked out a window and saw smoke and flames coming from a house four doors away.Pehlic says the fire spread quickly. A photo she took shows a wall of flames shooting from the front of the house. A seventh person was injured and is hospitalized. When firefighters arrived they attempted to enter the front of the two-story home but the porch roof collapsed and they were forced to retreat.
The inferno was put out within 30 minutes but not before it had engulfed the home’s front facade.
No other information has been released.
