67th Annual Emmy Awards brought in 11.9 million viewers
The 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards made history on September 20…just not all of it was good. Variety reports that the show drew in 11.9 million viewers, according to Nielsen data, which is the smallest audience ever recorded for the annual event.

The Emmys brought in a 3.6 rating with those in the prized advertising demographic of 18 to 49 years old – down 14% from last year.
The Fox network didn’t air a traditional Pre-Emmys red carpet show this year, they instead aired the conclusion of the Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles game, which ended about 15 minutes before the awards show started. Previous recorded lows were on ABC and Fox. FX’s The Bastard Executioner premiere notched 2.1 million same-day viewers Tuesday.
The latest Emmys ceremony, hosted by Andy Samberg, had to compete against NBC’s Sunday Night Football and AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead, among other programming.
Fox desperately hoped that using its own football broadcasts to promote the ceremony would draw in audiences.

When final ratings come in later Monday morning, it will mark the second year in a row that Emmy numbers have gone down since the almost decade-high achieved in 2013 when CBS saw the telecast rake in 17.6 million viewers. Both the Grammys and Oscars air weeks after the Super Bowl, while the Tony Awards are during the summer.
