67th Annual Mark Twain Marching Band Festival

WATERLOO | East High School’s band competed in its first marching competition of the fall Saturday. But the Hays High School Rebel Marching Band members, like their Lehman counterparts, are maximizing their week-by-week chances to scores major honors at area marching festivals hosted by Central Texas schools.

The event commemorates the flag developed and flown in Easton during the Revolutionary War that was the first of the United Colonies as a separate entity from England, organizers said. It will be one of 15 high school bands from across the region performing at the event. The festival featured four different competitions and there were 11 bands in the 3A division. Parking is available in the south lot of the HIgh School by the auditorium and the northeast lot by the Middle School gym. The Riverside Community College Marching Tigers also will perform at the tournament.

Tickets are sold at the door for $8 adults and $5 students.

This year, 10 school marching bands from Gibraltar, Wayne, St. Clair Shores, Dearborn, Southgate, Taylor, Flat Rock, Woodhaven, Romulus and Wyandotte will take the field to perform. Concessions will be available all day. Usually more than 1,000 spectators fill the arena.

Chapparal High School Marching Band will perform at the Tournament of Gold on Saturday, October 10.
