69th Independence Day celebrations

As per details, the day will follow by a salute of thirty-one gun in the federal and twenty one gun salute in provincial capitals.

Why was Pakistan created, asked a leading Pakistani daily on Friday, ruing that the country has strayed from the “unique vision” of protecting the rights of its minorities. Since independence in 1947, the people of Pakistan have worked side by side to build a strong nation that honors its distinct heritage and history.

The main event of the day was a flag hoisting ceremony at Convention Center in Islamabad, where Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was the chief guest.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has urged the nation to move forward while not repeating the mistakes done in the past to make the country a prosperous and self-reliant.

PPP MNA Nafeesa Shah said the historic speech of the Founder of Pakistan Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah should also be included in syllabus.

Flag hoisting ceremonies were also held at the provincial capitals and district headquarters besides other important national institutions.

Meanwhile, all major public and private buildings, roads and avenues have been illuminated and decorated with national flags, portraits of the national leaders, banners and buntings to give a festive look.

On the occasion of the 69th Independence Day, President Mamnoon Hussain has conferred 156 civil awards on citizens of Pakistan as well as foreign nationals for showing excellence and courage in their respective fields.
