7.0-magnitude quake jolts Tajikistan, Kashmir

The US Geological Survey reported that a 7.2 magnitude quake struck a sparsely populated mountainous area 109 kilometres west of Murghab and 111 km southwest of Karakul, Tajikistan at a depth of 28.7 km.

“Earthquake felt in New Delhi, buildings shake – witnesses”, posted Reuters on Twitter immediately after tremors were felt in Noida.

According to the USGS, an quake measuring 7.2 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Tajikistan on Monday.

Indian media also reported that quake tremors were recorded in capital city of New Delhi and Indian occupied Kashmir. Operations Head, Centre For Seismology also confirmed to ANI, “Epicentre was Tajikistan”.

There have been no reports of any losses to life or property so far.

The huge quake occured in Tajikistan at 7.50am, with the shaking felt as far away as India, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
