7 things you need to know about Fitbit’s new Versa smartwatch

The all new Fitbit Versa is smaller than the Ionic, but comes with a lot of the same features we loved on that watch, from Fitbit Pay to third-party apps. The feature will be supported by the Fitbit Versa and Fitbit Ionic, and in the Fitbit app as early as this spring, for all users who have identified as females during setup.

The Fitbit Verse is described as the “rounded square” smartwatch with a touchscreen display. the material used in the frame is anodized aluminum and comes in three color options – rose gold, black, and charcoal, which is more of a gray color. The range of bands available also looks to be trying to take on the Apple Watch in the fashion stakes.

As you would expect from Fitbit, you get all the activity and sleep tracking features you could want here, including heart rate monitoring and swim tracking (so naturally the watch is waterproof to allow that).

Fitbit is facing a touch challenge in attempting to dethrone the Apple Watch. The company also announced a new smartwatch on Tuesday called the Versa, which is being positioned as an everyday smartwatch rather than a fitness-only device or sports watch, like some of the company’s other products. There’s no GPS on the watch, so if you want to track your location you’ll need to use the Connected GPS feature and go running with your phone.

The Versa is available for pre-order today, with a release date scheduled for next month. The Fitbit Versa Special Edition will retail for $229.95. All of that is packed into a more slim and sleek metal package with upward of four days promised battery life.

The Fitbit Versa will offer a new, personalized dashboard for easy-to-read and approachable information, by way of the company’s Fitbit OS 2.0 software.

I strapped a Versa to my wrist to log a dodgeball workout at Fitbit’s Versa press event in Manhattan, and I didn’t even notice that I was wearing it (although perhaps that’s because I was performing damn near acrobatic moves to avoid getting beaned in the leg).

Fitbit Inc (NYSE:FIT) announced that the company is launching the Fitbit Ace, a smartwatch for kids that has more mass appeal thanks to its cheaper price tag. Fitbit’s vice president of product marketing Melanie Chase says the idea is to easily transition kids between their fitness tracker and the adult version, while also helping children feel more mature by using a product that looks and feels grown up.

Other software features like all-day heart rate tracking, Fitbit Coach, access to the company’s App Gallery marketplace, as well as sleep tracking will all be available on Versa. Both watches perform pretty well compared to Apple Watch or Android Wear devices in terms of battery. This feature could be helpful for parents wanting to keep track of how much sleep their child gets.

The Fitbit Ace, the new fitness-tracking device, is specially designed for children ages eight and up. It also includes the rumoured water-resistance, being able to survive being submerged to depths up to 50m.
