73rd Golden Globes Winners
Hollywood’s brightest actors and filmmakers once again fought for survival, success and recognition at last night’s 73rd Golden Globe Awards. Followed by wins of countless other actors, movie and crew, such as Sylvester Stallone (“Rocky”) and Pixar’s “Inside Out”, the Globes were an exciting beginning to 2016’s award show season. “Revenant” star Leonardo DiCaprio won best drama actor and Alejandro Inarritu was named best director.

Mad Men actor John Hamm has won the Best Actor award in a Television Series. Jamie Foxx would end up taking home the Academy Award in 2004 for his performance in the movie “Ray”. Cranston lost to DiCaprio for best actor at the Golden Globes. He will likely be named when the Oscar nominations are announced on Jan 14.
So what does that mean for Oscar night, which is on February 28?
“A few years ago on this show, I made a joke about Mel Gibson getting a bit drunk”, Gervais told the audience.
Gervais’ snark aside, the Golden Globes have worked for years to shed an image of eccentric selections made by a group of little-known worldwide journalists. While the passing of pop culture icon David Bowie has taken over the social chatter this morning, make no mistake: the Golden Globes unfolded live both on television and on social media.
Rising star Brie Larson beat veteran Cate Blanchett to win Best Drama Actress for her role as a young woman held captive for years with a young son in “Room”, while Jennifer Lawrence won Best Comedy Actress for “Joy”, about the Miracle Mop inventor. “They’re going to be calling us up, ‘” he said. “They were all laughing together about how amusing the whole thing was”.
Appropriately enough, Taraji P. Henson passed out cookies while coming to the stage to accept her best actress award in a drama.
“Steve Jobs”, a controversial film about the late Apple co-founder, won two Golden Globes – for supporting actress Kate Winslet and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin.
Before his acceptance speech, The Martian director Ridley Scott said,”I’ve prepared some kind of speech…because otherwise I ramble”, he said, although he still went over his time limit.
Critics believe the 41-year-old may finally win his first Oscar for the movie.
Best Original Song in a Motion Picture was awarded to Spectre’s Writings On The Wall.
Sean Penn: After the revelation that Sean Penn’s secret interview with notorious Mexican drug lord “El Chapo” led to the kingpin’s arrest (!), you knew that Gervais wouldn’t be able to let the night slide by without a dig at the Oscar victor.
