75-year-old dies of chikungunya at Ganga Ram Hospital
All five deaths due to chikungunya reported today have taken place at Apollo Hospital and most of the victims were aged 80 or above. The Health Minister pressed on the need to start rigorous awareness campaigns regarding the preventive steps to be taken by the people in their communities.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain on Thursday said that one can not die from chikungunya, and added that this information is available on Google and is not his personal opinion.

The Delhi government on Thursday urged union Health Minister JP Nadda to call a meeting of health ministers of Delhi and neighbouring states to review healthcare facilities.
Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung also urged all stakeholders to make all-out efforts to check Chikungunya and dengue cases in Delhi.

Over 770 cases were reported till September 3 this season.
At municipal-run Bara Hindu Rao hospital, a 30-year-old woman had died of chikungunya on September 5. Data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reveals that 9427 people are suspected to be carrying the vector-borne disease and 911 tested positive as on September 11.
According to civic bodies, the highest dengue cases were reported in 2015 with a total of 15,876 people infected by the vector-borne disease with 60 deaths. People die directly of dengue. “AAP volunteers held camps for dengue and chikungunya patients”, said AAP volunteers.

The state health minister, who was in Goa till yesterday (Sept. 13) has blamed the media for spreading panic.
