76ers center Joel Embiid will have surgery Tuesday

The No. 3 overall pick from Kansas has yet to play a game since being drafted in 2014.

After radio silence and a longer waiting period than initially expected, Joel Embiid will reportedly undergo surgery on his right foot that will cause him to miss his second straight season.

However, the issue has not managed to clear up over the past year, resulting in Embiid having to undergo a further procedure to fix the problem, reports Yahoo Sports. When asked about the delay, one source said it was partly because Embiid – who is 21 and who, according to president/general manager Sam Hinkie, has been pain-free – was coming to terms with the decision. A stress fracture in the navicular bone of his right foot kept Embiid out for all of last season as well.

The 76ers announced in July that Embiid needed a second surgery after a routine Connecticut scan in June revealed the foot had not healed as expected. They also now have to show patience with Embiid, which you would expect to begin to grow tiresome throughout this season.
