76ers reportedly leaning towards Ben Simmons with No. 1 pick

The Philadelphia 76ers struck gold in the 2016 NBA Draft Lottery by winning the first overall pick, giving the maligned franchise some good fortune moving forward following years of turbulent seasons.

Los Angeles Lakers – Tuesday night could have been an awkward one for Lakers’ general manager Mitch Kupchak had his team fallen out of the top three and been forced to convey their 2016 first round pick to Philadelphia.

The Lakers pretty much get 4 first round picks and a defensive center that they are now lacking in Noel.

The result gives the 76ers the number one selection in June as they look to improve on last season’s miserable 10-72 record. The team already have somewhat of a core with some of their past draft picks, and adding the top pick of the draft only makes the team better.

Marquette power forward Henry Ellenson, coming off a strong freshman season, is also projected to be a top 10 pick. So, what will they do with the top pick?

“The 76ers will further investigate Ingram, but they have great confidence in the upside of Simmons, whose ambidextrous athletic ability at 6’10” and 240 pounds comes with innate basketball instincts. The Sixers didn’t get their second win until the team hired Jerry Colangelo to the front office and re-acquired point guard Ish Smith to run the floor. The good news is when you look at the top of this draft, it’s nearly a position where you can’t go wrong at number one or two or three even. Ingram is a bit younger, a better, more willing shooter, and may fit the framework of Philly’s existing roster better.

With the NBA Draft Combine taking place in the days leading up to the lottery, we now have exact measurements of both size and athleticism of numerous players eligible for the draft.

The 76ers have teamed up with StubHub in a landmark deal which will see their jersey for the 2016-17 National Basketball Association season carry the ticketing agency’s logo. I’ve known his family since the late ’80s. They need shooting and perimeter scorers and already appear set in the frontcourt with Nerlens Noel, Jahlil Okafor and Joel Embiid, so Ingram makes more sense on paper.

What this means is that Ingram, if all goes as suggested, would be the next-best option for the Lakers in the second overall slot. And while that third pick isn’t as coveted as the first two picks, there likely will be some interest, meaning the Celtics could do some things on the trade market.
