An 8-month-old baby girl has died near Atlanta after allegedly being beaten by her mother and mother’s boyfriend, both of whom are in custody, police said Sunday.
Kamoni Love Whitehead was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston where she is now on life support.
DeKalb County On-Line Judicial System (OJS) shows 24-year old Shavone Whitehead has been charged with felony aggravated battery, felony cruelty to children and probation violation.
Whitehead initially denied she hit Love, but she later admitted to beating the baby on the legs and behind to punish her, according to records obtained by Channel 2 Action News.
The girl had injuries to her legs, buttocks, chin and arms.
11Alive reached out to Brookhaven Police for word on whether Whitehead and Wilson will face any additional charges now that the infant has died.
“It’s been hell really, it’s been hell”, McCoy said.

McCoy said he’s trying prepare for his daughter’s funeral. “I don’t know how else to explain it, it’s been hell”.

“I’m trying to get my mind together so I can just.plan a funeral and bury my baby”, he said.
