The 15th anniversary comes with the United States in the midst of a divisive presidential campaign between Hillary Clinton, who was NY senator at the time of the attacks, and Manhattan tycoon Donald Trump.

On this, the 15th anniversary of the attacks, houses of worship across New York City will toll their bells at 8:46 a.m.as institutions observe a moment’s silence to mark the instant when the first plane struck the World Trade Center’s north tower. Some bowed their heads while others held high photos of their loved ones.

The memorial in New York City at the site where the Twin Towers fell in the September 11 attacks 15 years ago straddles two worlds: one of the living and one of the dead.

Please keep in mind to pray for the families of those in our armed forces and law enforcement, the victims of the ongoing terrorist war against civilization, and for America.

A solemn President Barack Obama.

“It’s still hard. And coming here and seeing this for the first time since it happened, it’s very hard, very hard but it’s good that they’ve done. and it’s a legacy for everybody, coming up with the kids of those who lost their parents and their children for them to see exactly what happened”.

“This weekend, we honour their memory once more”. Behind me you can hear U.S. Secretary of the Interior, Sally Jewell, starting her address to the people here. But many dignitaries attended, including Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump and his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.

“Americans will never give in to fear”, the president reportedly said.

“As we know, sadly, the number of terrorist groups has only grown since 9/11”, he said.

It’s cliche to say it’s impossible to take in all the sites on a trip to NY, but it’s true.

The New York remembrance was a private event attended by families and local officials. There was still some confusion about if the crash was an accident when United Flight 175 hit the South Twin Tower at 9:03 a.m. Thick smoke trails into the sky from the tower’s upper floors.

On Saturday, 20 people pedaled along the newly opened September 11th National Memorial Trail.

Players and coaches from around Major League Baseball are wearing caps with American flag patches to mark the anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

At the event in Lower Manhattan, Byrne said that as he walks past the memorial to his office each morning, he bids “hello” to friends who died in the 2001 attacks and asks for their blessing. A lot of family members are wearing a blue and white ribbon.

The areas where the September 11 attacks took place have been repaired and rebuilt, but the ground – and the lives of many Americans – were forever changed.

As she spoke, a jetliner flew past the building, taking off from Reagan National Airport nearby. “During the ceremony, she felt overheated so departed to go to her daughter’s apartment, and is feeling much better”, the statement said.

More than 2,750 people were killed when two passenger jets destroyed the Twin Towers, the symbol of New York’s financial wealth and confidence.

“My desire to hate has gone”, Mr Scott said. What I could not imagine then was that my son – also named John – would enlist in the Marines and would serve tours of duties in those wars, once in Iraq, twice in Afghanistan.

As the years advance, the Museum says it is focused on teaching 9/11 to students born after 2001 who already see the attacks as history.
