WFTV Police said the wife of a St. Cloud police officer accidentally shot her daughter late Tuesday. Campbell fired a single shot that fatally struck Doby in the chest. The woman then discovered it was her daughter.
Emergency medical crews took the daughter to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries.
Police were called at about 11:51 p.m.to the area of 10th Street on the east side of St. Cloud in reference to an accidental shooting. She had passed out, he says.
In the 911 call, Sherry is heard in the background apologising to her daughter.
Police believe the shooting was an accident, but an investigation is ongoing.
“Baby, I love you so much”, she says.
Detectives are investigating the case but said the mother’s story matches evidence at the scene. “Please…Oh my god…”
The officer, is on administrative leave but is not under investigation, the department said.
“That’s really shocking, actually”, 80-year-old Harry Morris said on Wednesday while standing outside of his home on his lawn, which is located two houses down from where Doby was shot.
St. Cloud, where the shooting took place is south of Orlando, in central Florida.
The Orlando Sentinel reports Sherry Campbell, who works as a 911 dispatcher, told investigators she was awakened by what she thought was a stranger breaking into her home.

Police identified the victims but asked for their names not to be published because a member of the family has worked as an undercover narcotics officer.
