92-year-old woman kicked out of church for not tithing

Should a church be able to kick members out for not tithing? He also says his aunt has gone above and beyond in the past to financially support the church. She aired out her frustrations on Facebook and wrote: “What Church does this… why would I want to go to a church that everybody talks about everybody….”

The report quoted Kings nephew, Gerald Simmons as saying the 92-year-old was sick and was indoors for several months, which iwas why she could not attend church for a long period.

What do you do with a church member who’s been part of your congregation for more than 50 years if she hasn’t tithed lately?

The letter, which was signed by Senior Pastor Derrick Mike, didn’t show much compassion or concern for her special circumstances. The letter states that King was no longer a member because of her “non-support in the areas of constant and consistent financial participation”.

“You shouldn’t chase the individuals down”, said Simmons to WALB-TV. He hopes her story will shed some light on the policy. “She was shocked”, her nephew said. “You shouldn’t do that”.

He told WALB: ‘You have to have money to make these churches run, but it’s not about money. “If that’s the case, you’re money hungry”, said Simmons. According to Simmons, his aunt had been dealing with health complications and was considered sick and shut-in, which explains her lack of attendance.
