University faculty members disappointedly reflected on Provost Ilesanmi Adesida’s resignation Monday.

Salaita’s attorneys argue in a motion filed Tuesday that the university’s more recent release of emails in which then-Chancellor Phyllis Wise used a personal account to discuss university business back their claim.
EXIT: Resigning effective August. 31, was involved in the use of private emails with Wise.
In his statement Adesida said “current controversies are causing distraction to the administration and the student body, and I do not want to contribute to those distractions”. I worked with him in the Office of the Provost for two years and for this past year as a dean. She’s pledging to consult with faculty and student leaders on the decision. “And we can do it, and we do it all the time but it’s a constant piece of work”. He holds memberships in the most prestigious societies including the National Academy of Engineering and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Ade has left a permanent and positive mark on this university. He has my respect and gratitude.
Wise’s temporary replacement, Barb Wilson, said earlier this month that the provost is key to faculty recruitment and retention.

“I know how hard it is to recruit stars here”, she said.
