Kris Bryant hit the longest home run of the 2015 season Sunday

He just didn’t have it. It didn’t contain or cool off the Chicago Cubs.

Kris Bryant #17 of the Chicago Cubs hits a home run against the Arizona Diamondbacks during the fifth inning on September 6, 2015, at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois.

He has spent the majority of his time at DH when Chicago is playing at American League ballparks and left field in most other games.

The former Cubs prospect struggled with control in this one, walking six while allowing six runs and four hits in 3 2-3 innings. He is far ahead of all rookies with 86 RBIs and just one behind Joc Pederson for the most home runs. In May, the Cubs rookie hit a 477-foot homer off the new Wrigley scoreboard. Left-hander Matt Reynolds confronted Montero, a left-handed hitter, and the previous Diamondbacks’ catcher launched his 15th homer of the season to clear the bases for a 5-1 lead and his third profession grand slam. It appeared that Godley was just trying too hard to upset the team that drafted and traded him. “I didn’t do a good job – even though these guys did a good job of picking me up – of getting them back into the dugout”.

After he allowed a single to third baseman Jake Lamb to start the second inning, Arrieta retired 16 successive batters before Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a two-out, ground-rule double in the seventh.

The Cubs loaded the bases in the fifth after Bryant’s blast on three singles, but even with just one out at the time, they couldn’t score.

Diamondbacks reliever A.J. Schugel also walked in a run while being tagged with seven in Chicago’s big inning.

Lester also profited from the offensive output, picking up his ninth win of the season by allowing two runs in five innings. Although the Dbacks managed to get a couple of hits in the 9th, a comeback attempt was ultimately thwarted. It would only take one swing to bring in all the runs. “It’s definitely a fun atmosphere to play in”. With the win, the Cubs completed a three-game sweep of the D-backs and moved to 21 games over.500. Goldschmidt was expected to arrive in Chicago on Friday night and should be in the lineup Saturday. 2B Aaron Hill was available off the bench after leaving Tuesday’s game with a hamstring pull.

I haven’t seen a Cubs game in St. Louis since 1992, so I’m interested in seeing their now-nine-year-old ballpark, and hopefully, some Cubs wins.
