Watch Out, Seamless: Amazon Reportedly Trying To Launch Meal Delivery Business

There are about 15 job openings for a division called “Amazon Restaurants”, based in Seattle and New York, according to a Reuters search on LinkedIn and Amazon’s own jobs site. Reuters reports that the company has been trying to launch a new restaurant delivery service in Seattle and New York.

There are also, said Reuters, half a dozen postings for a division listed as “Amazon Restaurants and Travel”, which the newswire said is a likely a separate unit. At least five people have updated their LinkedIn pages to reflect they now work for the division, one of whom moved from a food delivery competitor GrubHub.

It is important to point towards the fact that Amazon already partners with restaurants in Seattle on Amazon Label where users can buy local deals and order food for takeout or delivery. However, one wrinkle is that deliveries are completed by staff members at the restaurants from which meals have been ordered, rather than from Amazon.

Still, there are a few extras and catches you need to know about Amazon same-day delivery, before you tap your Amazon app. Here are three of them.

There has been no official word from Amazon about “Amazon Restaurants”.

Amazon, which declined to comment on Friday, is best known as a place to buy millions of products including books and electronics.

Amazon has recently been aggressive in offering new food and drink to delivery services in addition to pantry and grocery deliveries. In July, Amazon has provided new details on its plan for a drone superhighway in the sky that could be used for home deliveries.
