Carnival said the ship’s guests were taken to a hotel in St. Thomas.

Carnival said in a statement that there were no injuries to the 3,346 passengers and 1,150 crew during yesterday’s incident.

The cause of the fire, which was extinguished by the boat’s automated fire extinguishing system, was under investigation, Carnival Cruise Lines said in a statement.

There’s no word on what started the fire or how much damage was caused.

The cruise was on its second day of a seven-day Caribbean cruise that left San Juan, Puerto Rico on Sunday. Refreshments and transportation are being provided by the cruise line. It is unclear why the engine of the 110 thousand-ton ship was on fire.

The following is a letter from Captain Andrea Catalani that was sent to the passengers who are now on Carnival Liberty.

The good news, according to Conde Nast is the extensive preventative measures, and how history has proven that “fires on ships are nearly always contained and are rarely fatal”. Cruise Fever will continue to monitor this breaking story and will have all updates as information becomes available.
