Wii Sports was a massive success for the Wii and Nintendo specifically because it caught on with entire families.

“Apple TV is the flawless home for this unique mixture of music, sports, and wacky fun”, Harmonix creative lead Jon Carter said in a statement.

News of the new Apple TV had already leaked out days ago, but the details were only confirmed today at an Apple event in San Francisco.

Gaming is a large part of Apple TV, and it is getting an impressive exclusive in the form of “Beat Sports“.

Although it doesn’t look very different to the old one, the new remote has a touchscreen, proper buttons (primarily for use as a TV remote, but also for games) and Wii remote style motion controls.

Harmonix, which is best known for creating the Rock Band music games, introduced Beat Sports. We expected that; however, it also unveiled the revamped Apple TV which will also play games on your big screen.

Apple TV features a third-party App Store and an overhauled operating system which “runs on tvOS” based on iOS.

But it also has motion control, which can be used for video games.

Meanwhile, if you play a game on your iPhone, for example, you can continue where you left off on your Apple TV. But this gaming didn’t seem as radical as it seemed – familiar.
