American woman killed in Nepal

An American woman who traveled to Nepal to help natural disaster victims has allegedly been beaten to death by the man she was staying with in a small village.

Hundreds of thousands were left homeless in that April natural disaster, and more than 8,000 people were killed.

‘He confessed that he killed her and then threw her body into a river, ‘ the officer told the Himalayan Times.

He is now being treated at the Manipal Teaching Hospital, police vowing to continue the interrogation on Monday morning to find the motive for the murder.

“We are devastated by this senseless loss of a handsome life”, the post reads in part.

Condolences have flooded the Facebook page over the past few days.

Yehia was a Portage Central graduate, and attended Kalamazoo College, graduating in 2011.

Dahlia Yehia, from Kalamazoo, Michigan, has been missing since travelling to the city of Pokhara last month to help people who were injured or lost their homes following last April’s quake.

She had not been heard from since August, and family started a Facebook page searching for her. The U.S. Embassy contacted local authorities and launched an investigation. She had been missing since early August. She was active in community service and interested in literature and mathematics.

“Our thoughts and condolences go out to Dahlia’s friends and family during this hard time”.

The school is planning a memorial this week according to the school’s principal. They say Yehia’s body has not been recovered. She continued humanitarian work throughout her life.

Yehia was most recently an art teacher at Sci-Tech Preparatory School in Austin, Texas.
