OS X El Capitan GM Candidate Available Today

It is not clear if the OS X 10.11 GM will add any new outward-facing changes to El Capitan, as some prior betas have focused on under-the-hood performance improvements and bug fixes to optimize the operating system ahead of its public release.

The Golden Master or GM version of OS X 10.11 El Capitan is presently available for this select group of very early adopters, giving confidence that Apple will indeed meet its September 30 deadline for releasing the software to the general public. Codenamed El Capitan, it has so far been available as a preview, and will officially arrive for all Apple desktop users at the end of this month. After the download completes, the OS X installer will launch automatically and installing the new release is as easy as following the onscreen instructions.

The company named the OS after a rock formation in the Yosemite National Park in California. If you have OS X v10.11 installed, download this update by clicking Updates in the toolbar of the Mac App Store.

Similarly, the Notes application can now include photos, videos, URLs and map locations as well as checklists, and sync across all Apple devices with iCloud.

Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, showed off new features of the iPhone 6S smartphone while on stage at the event. Both iOS 9 and watchOS 2 will be launching one week from this time on September 16th. iOS 9 supports all devices with an A5 SoC or newer. Users can upgrade their Macs to El Capitan through the App Store.
