SodaStream Closes West Bank Factory to Move to Israel
Carey hadn’t visited to launch a signature SodaStream line called DreamBubbler, but rather to advocate for coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians. The movement claimed that SodaStream discriminated against Palestinian workers and paid some less than Israeli workers.

Mahmoud Nawajaa, the Palestine Boycott National Committee (BNC) general coordinator, said: “SodaStream’s announcement today provides further proof that the BDS movement is increasingly able to hold corporate criminals to account for their role in Israeli apartheid and colonialism”. The controversy fizzed its way into the mainstream after Scarlett Johansson was forced to leave her post as a global ambassador for Oxfam for endorsing SodaStream in a Super Bowl ad.
Al-Haq human right organization stated that, “Attacks by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank against members of the Palestinian population and their property are an extensive, long-term, and worsening phenomenon”. However, the relocation was hardly devoid of a political context. Hundreds of Palestinian workers from the factory could lose their jobs in the company’s transition to a new plant in the Negev region because Israel will not grant them all work permits for security reasons.
“All the people who wanted to close (SodaStream’s West Bank factory) are mistaken”.
Jewish settlers Wednesday set fire to large swaths of Palestinian-owned agricultural land near the village of Burin, to the south of Nablus in the West Bank, amid an intensified Israeli military and police presence at the nearby Nablus-Ramallah road, according to local sources.

A new report shows that, according to official data released by the Israeli authorities, more than 11,000 demolition orders are now outstanding in the 60 per cent of the West Bank over which Israel still retains direct control – known as Area C.
